A few of the letters reference Sitting Bull and Bloody Mouth. Several letters concern illegal trade. There are also brief reports regarding the Indian Schools. The 1905 report lists the salaries at the Indian School, and the 1907 report notes inconsistencies in religious education. Papers are photostats of miscellaneous handwritten correspondence.

Abstract Douglas D. Martin was a long-time member of the Western History Association and a recognized scholar of Native American/white relations. Dr. Martin published widely. Dr. Martin’s areas of specialty included the socio-cultural history of the United States, the history and literature of the American frontier, American environmental history, and Indian-White relations in American history.
