Biography
Local historian and author Kay Atwood, who has written extensively about the Southern Oregon region. Atwood’s books include Illahe: The Story of Settlement in the Rogue River Canyon, Mill Creek Journal: Ashland Oregon, 1850-1860, and Chaining Oregon: Surveying the Public Lands of the Pacific Northwest, 1851-1855. Her many other books and articles explore the settlement and development of communities in Southern Oregon, and include National Register nominations, cultural resource inventories, and environmental and organizational histories.

Aulthouse, Sucker Creek, Browntown
The materials consist of three notecards with what appear to be captions or descriptions of various newspaper articles from the nineteenth century. Two are typewritten, one is handwritten. One refers to Aulthouse, the second refers to Sucker Creek, and the third concerns Browntown.
Browntown, 1865-1976
These materials concern the history of an early mining community in southern Oregon called Browntown. Included are some articles about the settlement as well as some historical manuscripts and a map of the area.

These materials constitute a collection of various forms of media compiled with the intent of creating a chronology of the history of Josephine County, Oregon.
