Biography

Local historian and author Kay Atwood, who has written extensively about the Southern Oregon region. Atwood’s books include Illahe: The Story of Settlement in the Rogue River Canyon, Mill Creek Journal: Ashland Oregon, 1850-1860, and Chaining Oregon: Surveying the Public Lands of the Pacific Northwest, 1851-1855. Her many other books and articles explore the settlement and development of communities in Southern Oregon, and include National Register nominations, cultural resource inventories, and environmental and organizational histories.

The evaluation of the Running Y Ranch for inclusion in the National Registry of Historic Places identifies three distinct periods of history for the ranch. The periods include the Early Settlement Era 1866-1889, the McCornack Era 1890-1919, and the Geary Era 1920-1947. The document outlines the agriculture development of Klamath County during these periods. Materiels include images of structures and landscape on the ranch, as well as, maps and handwritten notes.

The National Register of Historic Places describes Wheeler Ridge as the Japanese Bombing Site. The preservation of Wheeler Ridge is significant because this was the only time an aerial attack of its kind was waged against America. Included with the documents are maps showing the site of the bombing and images of newspaper articles concerning the bomb site.

Yreka Sanborn Maps, 2004

Scope and Contents

The maps from the Sanborn-Perris Map Company outline the city of Yreka, California on a CD. The Sanborn Insurance maps are what they used for calculating insurance premiums for customers. Included on the CD are maps for 1885, 1888, 1890, 1897, 1901, 1908, and 1927. The maps provided information on the location, function, building materials, and dimensions of structures for each year listed.
