Fernwood pioneer cemetery, Everest Cemetery, Newberg, Oregon, 1993
Scope and Contents
The National Register of Historic Places nomination form describes the Fernwood Pioneer Cemetery established in 1882 and located near Newburg, Oregon. Four prominent headstones mark the graves of the Brutscher and Everest families. Many of the first generation settlers were laid to rest here between 1882 and 1922. Fernwood Pioneer Cemetery Association acquired the deed to the cemetery in 1967 and continue to care for it. The early period of settlement, post-1880, is linked to the development of the Quaker town of Newburg. Additional materials include photographs, newspaper clippings, maps of the plots, book excerpts on the history of the settlers, correspondence concerning the nomination, and handwritten notes.
