Lighthouses

The eight computer disks contain photographs and documents relating to the lighthouses researched for "Sentinel of the Seas." They also include PowerPoint presentations about the book and lighthouses.

The book "Lighthouses of the Pacific" details the histories of lighthouses along the Pacific Coast from Alaska to California, and in Hawaii.

The brochure is for the Lightship Columbia from the Columbia River Maritime Museum. It contains information about the operation and technical specifications of the vessel.

The book "Oregon's Seacoast Lighthouses" details information about various lighthouses along the Oregon coast.

The two postcards are from 'Point Saint George Lighthouse' and depict the lighthouse on their picture side. The reverse contains a small amount of informational text and a 'St. George Reef' seal. A thirdThe other postcard has an image of Crescent City.

The uncorrected proof copy of "Sentinel of the Seas."

The documents relate to the history of the Saint George Reef lighthouse. In particular, the reasons for the station's construction, the operation of the tower, and the dismantling and renovation of the site in more recent years.

The materials include Mr. Powers' research notes, newspaper and journal articles, and excerpts from books. Correspondence regarding the research materials is included.

The photocopied articles pertain to the keepers of lighthouses and the history of the Coast Guard on the west coast. One article concerns the role of women.

The rights releases allow the use of the various pictures in the publication of "The Dragon's Roar," by Dennis Powers. The photographs are of multiple lighthouses, many of which are unlabeled.
