Lighthouses

The rights releases allow the use of the various pictures in the publication of "The Dragon's Roar," by Dennis Powers. The photographs are of various lighthouses, many of which are unlabeled. There are photographs from a former keeper also included in the collection.

The early drafts of the first two chapters of "Sentinel of the Seas," contain notations in pen and handwritten notes.

The research materials focus on the Saint George Reef Lighthouse. A written first-hand account by Michael Mavris is included.

The material concern the history of the Saint George Reef lighthouse. Notably the daily lives of keepers and the darkening of the tower in 1975.

The file includes photocopied documents from the Saint George Reef Lighthouse Preservation Society. The correspondence concerns genealogical research regarding George Ballentine (possibly Ballantyne) and John Trewavas.

The papers refer to the preservation and operation of the Saint George Reef Lighthouse and the wreck of the steamer 'S.S. Brother Jonathan'. Featured people include John Gibbons.

The book, Sentinel of the Seas, by Dennis Powers. The publication describes the history of the St. George Reef Lighthouse located six miles off the Northern California coast.

The documents relate to shipwrecks and the history of lighthouses, notably the wreck of the SS City of Rio de Janeiro and the building of Saint George Reef lighthouse. The earlier publication dates refer to the book Lighthouses of the Pacific, published in 1992, and an edition of The Keepers Log from 1985, both of which have been photocopied.
