Biography
Local historian and author Kay Atwood, who has written extensively about the Southern Oregon region. Atwood’s books include Illahe: The Story of Settlement in the Rogue River Canyon, Mill Creek Journal: Ashland Oregon, 1850-1860, and Chaining Oregon: Surveying the Public Lands of the Pacific Northwest, 1851-1855. Her many other books and articles explore the settlement and development of communities in Southern Oregon, and include National Register nominations, cultural resource inventories, and environmental and organizational histories.

These materials contain agricultural and land use data and statistics in Josephine County, Oregon from the first half of the twentieth century.
Aulthouse, Sucker Creek, Browntown
The materials consist of three notecards with what appear to be captions or descriptions of various newspaper articles from the nineteenth century. Two are typewritten, one is handwritten. One refers to Aulthouse, the second refers to Sucker Creek, and the third concerns Browntown.
Browntown, 1865-1976
These materials concern the history of an early mining community in southern Oregon called Browntown. Included are some articles about the settlement as well as some historical manuscripts and a map of the area.

These materials constitute a collection of various forms of media compiled with the intent of creating a chronology of the history of Josephine County, Oregon. Some of the materials include earlier attempts at this chronology. Also included are maps, newspaper articles, and Atwood's notes and correspondence, among other items.

These materials are related to Eight Dollar Mountain and its history. The central document is Atwood's historical context report on Eight Dollar Mountain that she sent to the Josephine County Planning Office on July 23, 1984. Gallaghen - Galice, Galice Consolidated Mines Company Building, "Speed's On the Rogue", 11407 Merlin-Galice Road, Galice, Oregon, 1990
The National Register of Historic Places form describes the Galice Consolidated Mines Company Building. Constructed in 1900 as the headquarters for the mining company. In 1928, it became a fishing lodge, known as "Speed's Place on the Rogue."
Research materials include book excerpts on prospecting, correspondence concerning the nomination, newspaper articles, handwritten notes, images of the property, legal papers, and a history of the mines and surrounding area.
Haines Apple tree site, 1935-1985
These are two materials related to the dedication of the Haines homestead as a historical site. The first item is from a 1935 newspaper, and the second appears to be from the 1980s.
Highway 99, Josephine County, 1914-1984
These are materials related to the history of Highway 99 in Josephine County, Oregon. Included are newspaper and magazine clippings, maps, and photographs from the first half of the twentieth century, as well as some of Atwood's correspondence concerning the highway.
