Scope and Contents

Tours through the Oregon Caves National Monument pass many huge, grotesque features such as the Grand Column which was formed by the gradual merging of a stalactite and stalagmite over the duration of millions of years. The Column has the largest diameter of any such formation in the Cave. The Oregon Caves National Monument is at the 4,000-foot level deep in the Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon. Located 20 miles east of Cave Junction, it is accessible by paved road, (Oregon State Highway 46) leading off U.S. Highway 199. (Oregon State Highway Deparment Photo 8330).
