Articles, pamphlets, and maps
Scope and Contents
The Dean and Mary Collins papers contain articles concerning Native American tribes from the southwest region. The papers include maps of the reservations, as well as tourist guides. The collection focuses on the Navajo. However, other Southwest tribes including the Pomo, Hopi, Zuni, Papago, and on tribes from other regions such as the Yurok, Cherokee, Sioux, and others are included.
The collection relates to a prior donation by Mary Collins. In 2007 Mary Collins donated an extensive artifact collection to the Anthropology program at Southern Oregon University and the related book collection to Hannon Library. Around 100 representative artifacts were photographed and added to Hannon Library’s Southern Oregon Digital Archives so that students would have easier access to studying these artifacts.
