Ashland background research
Scope and Contents
The book excerpts describe the town of Ashland, in the Rogue River Valley up to the city's incorporation in October 1874. A listing of the settlers of Ashland, businesses, churches, and schools are detailed, as well as government practices. The thesis by G. Byron Backes discusses the location and physical setting of Ashland. The papers describe Ashland's settlement and the continued growth, as well as area resources such as its fertile soil, timber, and the importance of the railroad coming to the area. Additional research notes and handwritten notes about the background of Ashland.
