The National Register of Historic Places describes the Rich Gulch Diggings Mining Ensemble as a gold mining operation spanning three distinct periods from 1867 to 1941. The Gulch is located within the city limits of Jacksonville, Oregon, a short, three-quarter-mile west of the city center. The Gulch and other surrounding areas have been acquired by the Jacksonville Woodlands Association, which is working towards preserving and protecting the city's historic lands. This site and adjacent properties are in the City of Jacksonville's Special Protection Zone. The mining area retains the historical association of mining and development of Jacksonville and vicinity over these seventy years. The materials document the history of the Rich Gulch Diggings, how it was mined, the owners, and how it has retained its integrity through the years. Included in the folder are images of photographs, maps, handwritten notes, and newspaper clippings. There are Quit Claim Deed forms, correspondence, and miscellaneous other photocopies of records.
