Scope and Contents
The collection contains maps, reports, and information concerning the geology of many locations in southern Oregon. Areas of note include Emigrant Lake, Jackson County, and the Klamath Mountains. There is also an earthquake hazard map for western Oregon and several hazard maps.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Smedes earned a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Washington. He taught at Southern Oregon University and worked as a research geologist for the U.S. Geological Survey agency. Dr. Smedes studied the geology of Oregon, Montana, and Wyoming. His interests included earthquakes, and volcanologic studies, particularly in Yellowstone National Park.
