Scope and Contents

On October 11th, 1978 Kay Atwood entered an agreement with the college to interview past and present professors of Southern Oregon State College. Dates of interviews ranged from 10/19/1978 to 2/21/1980. The interviews covered the professors’ education, post-graduate experience, background and personal life, and their views on SOSC. Kay Atwood conducted the interviews at the interviewee’s home. Interviews lasted approximately two hours.

The materials include the 21 original cassette recordings of the interviews, the initial contract entered by Kay Atwood and the Southern Oregon State College arranging the interviews, along with fourteen files of typed transcripts of the interviews. Many of the files also contain the contract between Kay Atwood and the interviewee, photos and newspaper clippings related to the interviewee, and duplicate transcripts of the interview. The 21 original cassette recordings of the interviews.

Biographical / Historical

Local historian and author, Kay Atwood has written extensively about the Southern Oregon region. Atwood’s books include Illahe: The Story of Settlement in the Rogue River Canyon, Mill Creek Journal: Ashland Oregon, 1850-1860, and Chaining Oregon: Surveying the Public Lands of the Pacific Northwest, 1851-1855. Her many other books and articles explore the settlement and development of communities in Southern Oregon and include National Register nominations, cultural resource inventories, and environmental and organizational histories.

Abstract

Cassette tapes of the interviews and associated materials are housed in two boxes. Box one contains the initial contract entered by Kay Atwood and the Southern Oregon State College arranging the interviews, along with typed transcripts of the interviews. Many of the files also contain the contract between Kay Atwood and the interviewee, photos and newspaper clippings related to the interviewee, and duplicate transcripts of the interview. Box two contains the 21 original cassette recordings of the interviews.
