The hotel was built between 1925 and 1928, to be a first-class tourist hotel and community center. Scope and Contents

The National Register of Historic Places describes the Wheeler Ridge Japanese Bombing site, as the only place on the U.S. mainland experiencing a Japanese attack. The bombing occurred on September 9, 1942. The nomination form includes a brief history of Japanese bombings during World War II, images of the bombsite, newspaper clippings describing the attack, and excerpts from 1962 editorials regarding the pilot who dropped the bomb on Oregon. Maps of the area are included.
