Scope and Contents The National Register of Historic Places describes the "Fairview Historic District" once established as a 19th century solution for the developmentally disabled. As a living institutional farm, located on 670 acres outside of Salem, the residents learned to work the land and lived in "cottages" with their caregivers while living on the farm.
