Biography
Local historian and author Kay Atwood, who has written extensively about the Southern Oregon region. Atwood’s books include Illahe: The Story of Settlement in the Rogue River Canyon, Mill Creek Journal: Ashland Oregon, 1850-1860, and Chaining Oregon: Surveying the Public Lands of the Pacific Northwest, 1851-1855. Her many other books and articles explore the settlement and development of communities in Southern Oregon, and include National Register nominations, cultural resource inventories, and environmental and organizational histories.

Correspondence, 1974-1978
The small collection of letters concern the history of Southern Oregon. The topics include the Woolen Mills, the Butte Creek Mill, and 'Gin Lin' of Jacksonville, Oregon. Two significant letters include a personal narrative by a member of the Takelma Indians of the Rogue Valley, and research documenting minorities in early Jacksonville, Oregon.
Correspondence / Family history, 1918-1979
These materials are letters of correspondence between Atwood and several individuals from whom she was seeking information for her Illahe project. The individuals mostly recount their family's histories in these letters and answer Kay's questions about the history of the area. Also included are some photocopies of various documents and other primary source materials.
Court cases, 1800s
These materials are related to the history of various court cases in Jackson County, Oregon in the nineteenth century. These materials are mostly reproduced lists and descriptions of the court cases.

The report contains images of structures considered for relocation and map of the land. The Community Kitchen is eligible to be included in the National Registry of Historic Places.
