Ashland Bank, Bank of Ashland, 15 North Main Street, Ashland, Oregon, 1979
Scope and Contents
The National Register of Historic Places nomination form describes the Ashland Bank. Constructed in 1884 the building became the first banking resource for the city of Ashland. The building ceased to be the Bank of Ashland in 1939. Mr. Henry G. Enders purchased it and rented it out as office space and used by a Justice of the Peace for many years. Mr. Enders sold the building in 1954.
Originally built out of wood it was replaced with a brick after a fire destroyed many of the structures in town. Leander Sanford Palmeter Marsh also built the Jackson County Courthouse in Jacksonville the prior year. Mr. Marsh hired Byers and Guerin to do the brickwork, and J.H. Whipp of Jacksonville built the foundation.
The file includes correspondence concerning the nomination, rehabilitation, and restoration of the building.
