Scope and Contents
The report by the United States Department of Agriculture for Soil Conservation Service describes the soil moisture at the time of the survey. Rangers used the Whaleback Cabin when conducting these surveys. The documents include a history of the Whaleback Snow course as well as images of the area and structure. The transcript of an interview with R. A. (Arch) Work concerns the Soil Conservation Service's snow survey program in 1981. An excerpt of "Snow in America" chapter 4 is available for review, as well as an article from The National Geographic Magazine, November 1949, Sno-Cats Mechanize Oregon Snow Survey.
