Jeffery LaLande worked as an independent historian outside of his Forest Service career, and this collection resulted from his independent research. These papers include correspondence with researchers on various topics; files from essays, articles, book reviews, and books he has written; and his peer reviews, requested by various editors, of manuscripts submitted for publication.

The C-files are composed of early and recent timber reconnaissance and inventory reports, timber management plans, "policy statements," and sale reports, as well as correspondence dealing with forest diseases and insect infestations. The C-file also includes items dealing with Christmas-tree cutting and other "special forest products."

C-14 "Timber Management Plan," by David P. Keiser, and Lyle N. Anderson, Timber Management Section, Rogue River National Forest, Medford, Oregon (45p). The document is similar in format to item C-13 but updated and expanded. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]

C-18 "Memorandum of Inspection - A. L. Coggins Timber Sale," I. J. Mason, S-Sales, Rogue River National Forest, Medford, Oregon (2p). The correspondence deals with a timber sale of 1928 in the upper Tolman Creek drainage. 10 MMBF were sold, but only a fraction was cut, due to the low demand of the Depression economy. C-20 Crater National Forest "Progress Reports - Brushy Hill Replanting Project, 1910," Medford, Oregon (14p). The report includes information on Brushy Hill Plantation in Ashland Watershed, as well as Sequoia plantation at Ashland Tool House. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]

C-21 Crater National Forest "Report on Trespass - Ashland Manufacturing Co.," Medford, Oregon (31p). The report deals with timber trespass and fire trespass by a private logging company on the Neil Creek portion of the National Forest. A map shows the locations of cutting units and donkey engine settings. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]

C-26 "The Scaler's Prayer," Anonymous. Five stanzas of rhyme which relate the woes of life as a Forest Service timber scaler. The poem probably dates to 1965. [RRSNF/SOU-HL]

C-31 The Ashland Ranger District "Daughter of the American Revolution - Memorial Plantation in Ashland Watershed," Ashland, Oregon (16p). A file of material on a 1-acre ponderosa pine plantation along Ashland Creek road, now NF land. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]

C-32 A "Timber Management Policy Statement, Rogue River Working Circle," Karl L. Janouch, S-Plans, Rogue River National Forest, Medford, Oregon, (37p). This document is similar in format and general content to items C-7, C-9, and C-11. The document provides a glimpse of forest management concerns before the defense build-up of the post-1939 period. C-33 The Rogue River National Forest "Plan for the Integration of Blister Rust Control and Timber Sales Activity, at Union Creek and Prospect Ranger Districts," Rogue River National Forest, Medford, Oregon, (30+p). This file contains several draft versions of the report and various maps of "control" and "B.R.C." units. The plan provides a history of the BRC program on the Rogue between 1933 and the late 1950s.
