Scope and Contents

This pioneer courthouse, built in 1884 in Jacksonville, still stands as a monument to the integrity and growth of a community set on the principles of fair democratic government. The courthouse is now a museum featuring items of western history. Jacksonville was born of the first gold rush days in Oregon during 1851. (Oregon State Highway Department Photo 5996).

Scope and Contents The National Register of Historic Places describes the Rich Gulch Diggings Mining Ensemble as a gold mining operation spanning three distinct periods from 1867 to 1941. The Gulch is located within the city limits of Jacksonville, Oregon, a short, three-quarter-mile west of the city center.
