 File — Box: 03, Folder: 07
Identifier: MSS014.01.38

Scope and Contents

The real estate documents begin with the Donation Land Claim from the United States to Benjamin F. Myer, who divided it into lots called them the Myer Tract in 1869. The first sale of lots was to Charles Benton Lindsay, who purchased lots, forty-two and forty-four in 1884. He also sold lots two and three to Henry B. Carter and Fordyce Roper in 1887. In 1888, Henry B. and Harriet Cater, with their partners Fordyce and Julia Roper, laid out and subdivided an area with lots, blocks, streets, and alleys to be known as "Summit Addition" to The Public and for public roads. Between 1887 and 1938, the property changed ownership many times. Also, within the documents are court cases of tax foreclosures and probates and guardianship of minor children. Included are two maps laying out the sections for the area.
