L-31 "A Story About an Early Forest Service Botanist," by Greg D. Lind, Idaho City Ranger Dist., Idaho. The Story published in the FS's "History Line" publication in Winter 1994 concerns Douglas C. Ingram, an early Forest Service range ecologist. The Story covers Douglas Ingram's work as a botanist in the PNW and his death in the Camas Creek Fire of1929. L-35 Photocopy excerpt of Yale University's "Obituary Record," New Haven, Connecticut. The excerpt covers the obituary record of Harold Day Foster, who died in November 1947. Foster was Deputy Supervisor of Crater National Forest from 1904-1917. Foster was also a supervisor of various other Pacific Northwest Forests. He was the brother of Marian Gribble of Medford, who was the wife of John Gribble, Ashland District Ranger. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]

Scope and Contents L-40 A photocopy of one chapter from "Memoirs," by Harold C. Chriswell, Bellingham, Washington. Memoirs is a privately produced document that contains a portion of Mr. Chriswell's memoirs of his Forest Service career, 1933-1971. The chapter "Memoirs" covers Chriswell's years at the RRNF, 1950-52. Chriswell recalls the heavy snowfall at Union Creek, and the Forest Service employees living there. The document includes a discussion of the typical workload, briefly mentions the mining claim...

Scope and Contents L-43 "Oral History Interview with Zane Grey Smith," as part of the Northern Region [USFS] Retirees Association 'Living History Project,' Missoula, Montana. Early in his career, Zane Smith served as a junior forester on the Union Creek (later Prospect) Ranger District and then timber management assistant at Butte Falls Ranger District. Zane Smith went on to become Regional Forester for the Southwestern Region, California. His recollections include some memories about his career in the USFS...

L- 45 Correspondence from Fred Buehling to Barbara Mumblo, dated June 21, 2006. A one-page letter with attached photocopied photographs and article about Mr. Buehling's years, 1942, 1947-48, as a temporary FS employee on the Applegate and Ashland districts. L-46 "Witness Statement regarding the George Duncan Shooting," of 1952 in Prospect, Oregon. The affidavit like statement by RRNF fire control officer Lowell Ash, who witnessed the Elk Creek shooting death of Oregon State Police Officer Phil Lowd by the "hermit trapper" George Duncan. The shooting resulted in a lengthy manhunt. A portrayal of the incident appeared on the "Gangbusters" television show. [RR-SNF/SOU-HL]
