The Rogue River National Forest chapter from the book "Memoirs", 1989-1997
Scope and Contents
L-40 A photocopy of one chapter from "Memoirs," by Harold C. Chriswell, Bellingham, Washington. Memoirs is a privately produced document that contains a portion of Mr. Chriswell's memoirs of his Forest Service career, 1933-1971. The chapter "Memoirs" covers Chriswell's years at the RRNF, 1950-52. Chriswell recalls the heavy snowfall at Union Creek, and the Forest Service employees living there. The document includes a discussion of the typical workload, briefly mentions the mining claim practices on the Union Creek Flat, and how mining claims interfered with timber sale planning. Chriswell's writings note the numerous fires around the Buzzard Mine in 1951, George Duncan's shooting of a State Patrolman, the Rogue-Umpqua Divide, and the diesel power plant at Union Creek (9p. text with photos).
