One document of note is the Donation Land Claim Entry, United States to A.D. Helman, dated February 22, 1854, filed February 18, 1851, for property in the Enders Addition in downtown Ashland. Hargadine to Lindsay Applegate, dated November 24, 1862, filed December 16, 1862, to “bargain, sell and convey” the principal part of Donation Land Claim No. 42, in Ashland’s Railroad Addition.

Eber Emery - Donation Land Claim, 1872-1940

The real estate abstract documents ownership of the Donation Land Claim Eber Emery received from the United States in 1872 through 1940. There are descriptions of the Summit and Pracht additions that divided the land into lots for sale in Ashland. Also, the records describe the incorporation of the City of Ashland, and the Granite City Savings Bank. A copy of Henry B. Carter's will and probate records, articles to incorporate the Carter Land, and the sale of the property to provide for his son Ray Carter. Also included are the records of Benjamin F. Myer's survey of Ashland in 1867, which became the official city map in 1888.

John W. Abbott and Homer H. Neal - Donation Land Claims, 1885-1933

The real estate abstract documents ownership of the Donation Land Claim John William Abbott received from the United States in 1885 through 1900. These documents list the owners beginning with John W. Abbott and include the Tax Deed auction in 1899 to Kasper Karl Kubli. The abstract ends with the 1900 Kubli sale to John Boyd Robinson and William Kirby by a Quit Claim Deed.

The abstract includes the ownership of a second Donation Land Claim received by Homer H. Neal from the United States in 1908 through 1933. Homer Neal sold the property to Welborn Beeson in 1918. In 1907, Homer H. Neal purchased the land from John Boyd Robinson and William Kirby by Quit Claim Deed. Homer H. Neal mortgaged the property several times with the State Bank of Talent. In 1930, Neal sold a piece of property to William Dexterer Starkweather.

The real estate abstract documents ownership of the Donation Land Claim Lindsay Applegate received from the United States in 1872 through 1926. These documents list the owners and include the records of the deeds. Several deeds specify land to be used for streets in the City of Ashland starting in 1908. The documents describe the City of Ashland boundaries extension, which includes the Charles B. Lamkin's property, through an Act of the Legislative Assembly, including the addition of the Oregon-California Railroad right of way. Also included are the records of legal proceedings concerning the will, probate, and other legal documents regarding the estate of Robert Taylor and his surviving family.

Highland Park Addition Lot 66 - George (G. W.) Rose, 1872-1940

The real estate abstract documents ownership for the Land Donation Claim set aside for Private Santos Herrera. Private Santos Herrera served in the War with Mexico in Captain Padellas Company. In 1874, Herrera transferred the land to Mr. Emery. Emery sold parts of the property to others. In 1881, Mr. Reesers purchased the land. By 1888, the land was mapped and divided into 67 lots, with Gresham Street dividing the property in half. The land became known as "The Highland Park Tract." Fordyce Roper purchased the lots 63-67 in 1888. Also included within the abstract, are legal proceedings regarding Sheriff sales for unpaid taxes and liens in 1920. In 1922, George (G. W.) Rose acquired this land as the highest bidder at the Sheriff's auction.

Welborn Beeson - Land Donation Claim, 1878-1933

The real estate abstract documents ownership for Welborn Beeson's Donation Land Claim. Welborn Beeson purchased 120 acres in Talent, for the sum of $300 on March 4, 1908. William Kirby, Domingo Preozzi, Welborn Beeson, and Homer Neal agreed to establish a shared roadway from Yank Creek County Road through their properties in February of 1912. The agreement stated that the road would become a wagon road or trail if the path was determined to be undesirable. Also, no fence was to be erected by any person. Welborn and Nellie Beeson sold acres of the property to Homer H. Neal on March 5, 1917. Neal sold the property to William Dexter Starkweather on July 12, 1930.

Adelbert E. Shepard - Jackson County Land, 1901-1915

The real estate abstract documents the transfer of ownership beginning May 10, 1901. In the first transaction, Theodosia Earnest and Solon Obil Shattuck sell land to Adelbert E. and Rosa P. Shepard. Also included are documents regarding the Bank of Ashland's incorporation dating from February 1884. The initial investors of the bank are listed as Martin Laurence McCall, Edward DePeatt, William H. Atkinson, John Marshall McCall, and Henry Beach Carter. In June 1889, William H. Atkinson, Henry Beach Carter, H Ammerman, Frank Hine Carter, and Delos Royal Mills, are listed on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Ashland. George F. Billings and Eugene Lawrence Freeland witness the document.

In 1906, the abstract shows Heaton Fox, the town blacksmith and farmer, secured land according to the "To Secure Homesteads to Actual Settlers on the Public Domain" granted by the United States. The property appears to have changed hands many times. Adelbert E. Shepard is the owner as of April 24, 1915.

The real estate abstract documents ownership of the Donation Land Claim Eber Emery received from the United States in 1872 through 1922. Records list the owners of the land during these years. Also, the document describes the exchange of property with the Oregon and California Railroad of Portland, Oregon, right of way in 1883. Included are the survey records of "The Ashland Homestead Association," which divided the property into two sections with land for homes and land designated for roads. After the "Ashland Homestead Association" was created, the properties transferred hands many times. The last owner listed is Bennette Frederick Shaffer, 1922.

The records list the owners of the land during these years. Some principal owners include Johanna Houck, John E Pelton, Leander Andrew Neil, and Mary M. Dunn. Legal documents of Foreclosure between Houck and Chapman are present. Other materials of note are the Articles of Association for "The First National Bank of Ashland" with a list of the first appointed directors. The abstract includes the "Right of Way" deeds for Klamath Power Co. and the Talent Irrigation District. The properties transferred hands many times, with the last owner listed is Fermin Zana in 1938.

Lyons. The property was held in trust for the Rossi minor children. Also, in the documents is a 1939 certificate of tax exemption, as the minors are from the Klamath Tribe, a tax foreclosure in 1943, and two deeds documenting Jackson County's sale of the property back to the children in 1945 and 1946 for the sum of $178.04.

After Martha's death, ownership of the north section of the claim moved to the children. Each sold their part to their father, Able D. Helman. Also included are legal documents regarding the estate of Levi H. Blakeman, and the general vote in 1908 to extend the city limits of Ashland by a one-quarter mile. There is also mention of the "Helman Addition" (unrecorded) in 1909. Included is a map of the Helman Addition tract.

Josephine Poley, 1865-1928

The real estate abstract documents the many changes in ownership of Henry H. Eldridge's Donation Land Claim. The last recorded owner in 1928, is the State of Oregon, which represents the World War Veterans State Aid Commission. In 1859, the United States transferred land to the State of Oregon by a land grant, and the property was sold to George W. Rockfellow for the schools. The abstract includes court documents regarding probates for three landowners. In two probates, the assets were inventoried and sold to pay the debts. William Patton survived by a wife, five daughters and three sons, four of them minors. John G. Parham survived by a wife and one daughter, no minor children. The third probate concerned Joseph Poley, who was survived by a wife, one son, and three daughters. In addition, a copy of Isaac Woolen's Donation Land Claim records from 1869 is included, along with a map of Sections 25 and 36 of Ashland.

One deed list the last recorded owner as Henderson and Lottie Hash in 1898. The next document in this abstract shows the changes in the ownership for Able D. and Martha J. Helman's Donation Land Claim in 1865. The last recorded owner listed in this abstract is James R. and Floy Haight in 1939. Also included in these documents is an affidavit concerning Martha J. Helman's children transferring the interest in their share of the Donation Land Claim to Able D. Helman. Also, are three judgments included against J D and Florence Taylor, as well as court documents of Foreclosure and transfer of land and mortgages to Benefit Corporation in 1934-1936.

The property description includes all of lot 18 and a section of lot 17 measuring 40 feet wide off the north side laying adjacent to the full length of lot 18. In 1928, Joseph L. Harner and his wife Emily L. received the Deed to the Nob Hill Addition. Emily gave the property to Harry L. Harner and Elsie B. Riveros, her two children, in November of 1932, just before her death in December.

The real estate documents show that all of Donation Land Claim No. 48 belonged to Fermin and Lizzie G. Zana and that Charles L. and Ella Frances Weaver mortgaged the property in 1938. Fermin Zana died in December 1940 and left a will dividing his assets. They were to be divided between Lizzie Zana, his wife, Albert Highberger, The First Methodist Church of Ashland, The Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Portland, Oregon, Dominica Senestrato his sister, The Public Library of Ashland, and the City of Ashland, to use for a Community Hospital. Also, the documents are the remaining distribution of the remaining assets of Fermin's will. There are also three Chattel mortgages between 1942 and 1944.

In this folder are two original deeds. One is transferring property from George A and Celia A Andrews to H J and Frances Leveque in 1946, and from H J and Frances Leveque to C A and Rachel Irwin in 1949. Also included is a booklet about the Warner family written in 1941. There is also a single page from an abstract No. 7693, regarding Block "S" lots eighteen and nineteen of the Railroad Addition.

Mrs. Lottie Pelton, 1869-1938

The real estate documents begin with the Donation Land Claim from the United States to Benjamin F. Myer, who divided it into lots called them the Myer Tract in 1869. The first sale of lots was to Charles Benton Lindsay, who purchased lots, forty-two and forty-four in 1884. He also sold lots two and three to Henry B. Carter and Fordyce Roper in 1887. In 1888, Henry B. and Harriet Cater, with their partners Fordyce and Julia Roper, laid out and subdivided an area with lots, blocks, streets, and alleys to be known as "Summit Addition" to The Public and for public roads. Between 1887 and 1938, the property changed ownership many times. Also, within the documents are court cases of tax foreclosures and probates and guardianship of minor children. Included are two maps laying out the sections for the area.

Hargadine, 1862-1925

The real estate documents begin in 1865, with the Donation Land Claim to Robert B. and Martha W. Hargadine, and continue with many changes of ownership. Included are court documents regarding Robert B. Hargadine's will, probate, and the guardianship of the minor children, as well as the distribution of his property after his death in 1877. Martha W. Hargadine, with Alanson P. and Emma J. Hammon, created a community called the Hargadine Tract in 1888, for the City of Ashland. The records show many owners, ending with Ed A. Estes, in 1925. Also included is a map of the Hargadine Tract in Ashland,Oregon.

Henry J. Leveque - Irwin, 1872-1949

The first abstract document begins with a Land Donation Claim from the United States to William H. Jaquett dated 1872. The property had many owners between 1872 and 1908. Also, in this abstract are documents regarding Mary F. Benson's will and estate, including the final settlement. Jacob O. C. and Nancy A. Wimer sold the property to Josephine Benson in 1899. The Woolen Addition was established at Wimer Street and Chestnut Avenue. A map is included. The last owners listed in this deed are Archie D. And Grace O. Thacker.

The second abstract document starts with a Land Donation Claim from the United States to William T. S. Patton dated 1901. There were many owners of the property. Edward Daniel Briggs purchased land in 1888. Also included are court documents involving the Talent Irrigation District. The last owner listed in this abstract was Thomas A Merryman.

The third abstract document starts with a search on the title for lots seven (7) and eight (8) in Block forty-nine of the Summit Addition in Ashland, Oregon. Formerly known as Lots 42 and 44 in the Myer Tract.

In the fourth abstract begins with court between The First National Bank of Portland, Plaintiff vs. Frank Wells and Viola Wells, State Industrial Accident Commission of Oregon, and the City of Ashland, Defendants, dated 1940, of foreclosure with judgment for the Plaintiff.

The fifth abstract begins with Homer and Eva Culbertson, and the last owners listed in this abstract are George A. and Celia A. Andrews in 1946.

The sixth abstract begins with George A. and Celia A. Andrews selling to Henry J. and Frances Leveque. The documents show William M. Briggs as a trustee. The last owners listed are Everett A. and Nancy A. Jennings.

The real estate documents begin with the Donation Land Claim from the United States to Hiram E. Spencer, dated 1872. There have been many owners of the land throughout the years. In 1896 The Hoyt Brothers Lumber and Coal Co. purchased a portion. Arthur W. Ellis purchased a piece of the property using his World War Veterans' benefits in 1929. Also included are court documents regarding unpaid taxes, the divorce and custody of Alice and William Black, a satisfaction of Judgement, and probate for William Joseph Moore's estate. Celia A. Andrews sells to Henry J. and Frances Leveque. The documents show William M. Briggs as a trustee. The last owners listed are Everett A. and Nancy A. Jennings.
