Scope and Contents
The research thesis, written in 1979, details the Great Depression beginning on October 29, 1929, also known as "Black Tuesday." The thesis describes the effects on the economy, society, the nation, and the world. It points out that many depressions that took place before and after while explaining why the Great Depression was so devastating for the world as a whole. There is information concerning how the United States Government assisted with the recovery of the nation and the restoration plans. The text examines the usefulness of the Civilian Conservation Corps, which trained unskilled labor to work, and focused on the restoration of the National Forests and lands in the Pacific Northwest. There is detailed research of the geographic areas receiving the CCC projects and the plans for the structures that they constructed on these lands.
